Title: Lambda connector and more
Post by jocke on 05/27/09 at 18:05:53
I am about to make an adapter harness for myecu so I can connect it up to a LM-2 to do dual lambda data logging and also to receive the lambda to the ECU from the logger.

If I understand correctly it should be connected up to the small 3 pin white connector next to the big connector (dont know the name) for external connection. It looks like I have lost the little 3 pin adapter connector. I need to buy a new one. What type of connector is it? Just some small computer connector? What is the name of it?

I was thinking that it might be possible to take the tacho signal from the ECU to use as tacho input to my LM-2. Any ideas where I can find the signal? I need a signal with the same frequence as the RPM or half or the RPM.

It is a 5 pin connector on the PCB. What is it for?

I am also thinking about to make the external computer connector more permanent. I want to cut it, put a short adapter connector on it so I can have it hocked to the ecu all the time even if it is not in use. How many pins are used in the external connector? Which ones are used. I guess that it is just another standard computer cable. I will try to get a 90 degree one so I can save a bit of space.

I think the 3-pin (sensor) and 5-pin (flash programming) connectors are this type: http://www1.elfa.se/elfa~eu_en/go.jsp?s=eu-en&a=48C9282604D6453BE10000000A0A036A

I connected the sensor input to a diag pin in the big OEM connector, so it ends up in the original diagnostic connector on the bike harness, then I bought a mate for that one. This way the sensor connection is water proof but easily disconnectable. Stein-Dinse has that connector and ELFA too IIRC.

I also bought a tiny water proof connector that I use for the Optimiser/computer connection. This one I think: http://www1.elfa.se/elfa~eu_en/go.jsp?s=eu-en&a=48CE49576A8E744FE10000000A0A036A

I didn't replace the other end, it's still RJ45. I just wanted to make real sure water wont make it into the ECU regardless of weather.

I provide the ELFA links mostly so you can see the types, hopefully you can find local sources. But they do ship within the EU.

Edit:
Oh, and the tacho signal is not usable as-is as far as I know. I guess Cliff could provide one with some added code in the ECU.

Do you still have it connected to the RJ45 connector in the ECU or did you solder it direct to the PCB? The RJ45 conectors I have been looking at are to long to fit in the ECU.

Might cut them a bit and re-shape them to get clearance. Do you have any pictures of your ECU with the lid of to see how it looks?

I removed the internal RJ45. When I want to connect my laptop I use the Optimiser end of the cable and a female-female junction block.

I don't have any pics of how it looks right now and it's sealed with silicon so I won't make any until next time I need a reflash or something. Too bad the flash header is not reachable from the round hole.

How many wires are used on the RJ45 cable?

There's four of them. Ground, +5, Rx and Tx
