Title: How to log starts?
Post by jocke on 11/02/09 at 17:51:16
I have been trying to sort out my starts but I have no luck. Lots of kickbacks. Some time she starts. Some time not. Not very reliable

How do I log a start.

My computer skills are limited so I need a very detailed instruction.

W kickbacks, start w TDC1.
Idle 1200 RPM ign row: 10 degrees.

Got somee good tips from lubho:
Increase Prime values +15%,
decrease Crank -30%,
717 Ign Adv 500 RPM row.

How does your start map look? Which prime and crank values do you use?

Have a look at this link to get hyperterminal running
http://www.cajinnovations.com/MyECU/SerialComms.htm

Then within hyperterminal, go into Transfer->Capture Text

So after some hysterical clicking and many hours I have a working hyperterminal I think. Now all should be good and I could do some logging or????????????????????

I do not manage to convert my logged file to some thing useful.

First. Here is the log file. Or is it? I hope it is. Can some one confirm that this is a ECU log please.

Here is what I do. I open the ECU controller. I load a map from file.

I click on ECU diagnostic. The following menu comes up

I select the file that I so cleverly named log(2).dmp

The following comes up.

It does not matter what I am clicking on. Nothing constructive happens. The dialog box disapers and that i all. If I write something in the box to call the file something it creates a new file but the file has 0 bytes in it.

What am I doing wrong.

I know that I am stupid and I am sure that it is am easy fix. The question is just what is the fix.

Before clicking diagnostics, load a map into ECUControl. That should do it.

Put simply, it should be the map that was used when producing the log - but as far as I can tell the only important stuff is static things like TDC, CylOffs, PulsesPer and MissingPulses.

Edit: you said you loaded a map, sorry... here's take two:

Try opening the .dmp file with Wordpad, then chose Save As, and save as type "Text Document - MS-DOS format" with a new name. Then try again using that new file.

If this works, there is a setting in Hyperterminal for appending line feeds but that is a later problem. I recall Hubert said this must be done but I never had the problem. Maybe I already had this setting from some other adventures.

Your capture is good.
Can you attach the log file here so I can have a look at it.
I think Raz is right about the line feed but I thought that was a bug I fixed long ago.

I think that the problem is that when I am going to save the file it comes up a dialog box that sais open, not save. Is that normal????????? I think is it should say "save in"

That is not the problem. It's normal (but very confusing).

I have had problems like this when trying to parse an old log with a too new version of ECUControl. Zero byte output files. If I recall correctly, using an older version of ECUControl helped that. But that should not be your problem I guess.

I changed the extension from .DMP to txt. Then I opened with notepad I think. Then I saved it (save as) and changed the file name to from .txt to .dos and it works.

Dont ask me why.

Now I am just waiting for my fuel injectors to arrive back from cleaning so I can do som loggings.

Thanks for the help boys.

Can you send me the problem file so I can see why it didn't like it.

Okay. I will give it a try. Here it is            I think.

http://virdung.net/log.dmp

Ande here is the on that has had the name changend that actualy works

http://virdung.net/log.dos

And here is a map

http://virdung.net/21nov.ecu

This map has a lot of fuel in the starting. Much more then I think is good but I will give it a go as soon as my injectors are back.

I am not sure if it works.

Edit. I think that it is working :)

Is it possible to attach the file in a more easy way or do I always have to upload it on my homepage first?

Jocke..........

The only difference between the files is that the original start with three "null bytes" and they were converted to spaces in the .dos file. You probably did nothing wrong, it was more or less bad luck I guess. ECUControl should ideally ignore them, like any data it can't parse.
