Title: Ducati 907 ie tuning. Post by 907 ie on 01/11/10 at 22:34:24
Hi there. I'm new to this & don't know much about tuning the P8 that I've fitted to Duc 907 ie. Wondering if anybody could show me the start & no load areas of a map that is working OK. Mine has been tuned on a dyno & goes well under load, but cold start & no load around town could be a lot better. Any help appreciated.

The most important is to make sure the TPS is setup properly. See http://www.cajinnovations.com/MyECU/FirstSteps.htm
At the bottom of this there is also a description of how the starts work. Its easy to have too much fuel in the priming. I'd reduce it step by step until it doesn't fire and then add about 20%. Remember the prime and boost tables are temperature based. |

Great to see another 907 here! :)
Also struggled quite a bit w starting issues. Would be good if you could be a little more specific about problems, do you f e have kickbacks? Any modifications to engine? Are you familiar w the MyECU software? In the first RPM row of spark & inj tables, only the spark one is involved in starting, if you have TDC at 0. If you have kickbacks, set TDC to 1 til you have a good start, then you could experiment w like 3-8 degrees f e. What changed things the most f me was a tip to reduce Crank values w 30-40% & increase Prime w 20-30%! Seemed to give more fuel when starting without choking immediately after. And of course starting circuit, cables, battery etc in top shape is a good thing.... Reducing quite abit of ign advance at 3-4k RPM & low/mid throttle openings help low speed driveability. Would be great if we could exchange maps! Are you a member of the http://ducatipaso.org/ Forum? Lotsa knowledge & help to be found there! ;) Where are you located? |

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
My bike is virtually standard except for some aftermarket pipes I fitted about 12 years ago. I don't have much trouble with kickback. I've set to start on map not TDC. I could wind it until the battery went flat & it wouldn't fire, but if I just let it wind about 1 second at a time, it will generally start on the third press of the starter. I've been mucking around with the prime & crank values without much change, but I really don't understand what I'm doing. I haven't looked at Paso forum. I've never had any real problems until a Ducati dealer told me that my original ECU was faulty (which it wasn't), just an intermittent crank sensor. I'm in Cairns, Australia. How do we go about looking at the maps we have? |

Above I just used Insert table row & Insert table options when you answer a topic here.
Open your map in f e Wordpad, cut & paste parts you want to share (not mine, V11 map above). Your problems seems ignition related. You do have a good spark? After 10 secs or more winding, both plugs are wet? Do share your ignition table! |

This indicates that you need to increase the prime values as each time you crank there is an initially prime on top of the per cycle prime. Try increasing by 10% at a time. How much throttle are you using? |

Greenmonster - Thanks for the ignition table. I will do some comparisons & trials over the next week or so & see how it goes.
Cliff - I'll have another look at the prime/crank settings. - I generally don't use any throttle while starting as I've never had to before. Thanks for help. It should get me motivated to finally put the effort into getting it running properly. |

Your ign table looks quite normal to me, at least pretty close to mine..... Again, the one in my post is a Guzzi V11 ign map.
I , though, have the original 907 map RPM Breaks:
600 1200 1500 2000 2500 3000 3501 4002 4501 5000 5506 6000 6510 7009 8241 9014
Share your TPS row as well! |

I have a Ducati 907 ie which I have problems getting started with a MiniMyP8. I use Cliff Jefferies original map file, sligthly modified as I do not hav an O2 sensor etc. I have tried different values for Prime and Crank, but have only managed to get motor stared twice with MiniMyp8, then with a warm motor.
I am very interrested in a map file that is working for a 907 ie, to get a step further. Anyone that has a map file or knowledge to share? |

I've just had some feed from another new MyP8 user with a 888 Ducati.
He's confirmed difficult starts also but has got past that. He suggest too much spark advance may be behind the problem. The map above also has reduced spark advance on the 500RPM column |
