Title: Weird issue Post by pasotibbs on 06/13/10 at 06:07:24
The last few times I've been out on the bike I've without warning either had a total "flame out" (ie total loss of power) or a partial loss of power (possibly lost a cylinder ?),
in both cases cycling the engine kill switch (ie rebooting) has restored power as if nothing has happened and without any backfires so it appears to be Inj or Inj and Ign that are failing rather than just Ign. After the first time it happened I went from closed loop to open loop removed the Lambda from the exhaust and pulled the fuse to the LC1, this did appear to cure the fault but it is random enough that it may just not have occured on my test ride, today I refitted the Lambda but left the ECU in open loop and the fault occured 3 times in 20 miles.I have now noticed that the Optimizer is randomly doing weird things and wonder if they are related... 1. the top row of the normal display changes ie 21:5c 23:00 3417 (the 21:5c and 3417 change with throttle or RPM but the 23:00 remains constant) 2. Barometrics will suddenly display then disappear 3. The display will "crash" ie show 0 rpm etc when the engine is running or just lock up and display the same values all the time. all the above have not caused the bike to stop running when noticed but I've been too busy trying not to get killed to notice if the display does any of the above when the engine has lost power ;D I've just checked the optimizer for any broken wires or water in the case, checked all the connections, sprayed switch cleaner in the case buttons and disconnected the LC1 connector inside the ECU but have yet to test. I just thought I'd see if anyone had seen anything like this before ? |

It sounds like power to the ECU is being interrupted. This is supplied by a relay so you might want to rotate the relays and check the seatings of them.

Just to update, it looks like I may have had 2 faults ?
Swapping the relays/cleaning contacts and kill switch appears to have cured the "flame outs"(so far anyway) but the Optimiser continued to lock up and reboot itself so on Saturday I reflowed all the connections and replaced the buttons . I did about 180 miles on Sunday and didn't notice it reboot or do anything weird so hopefully it's fixed also. :) |
