Title: First Start Post by Kiwi Roy on 08/27/10 at 18:51:30
The first time I start each day the bike needs several seconds of cranking.
For the first couple of seconds nothing happens like there's no fuel, then it fires weakly but won't catch, stops firing then it's up and running. The total time is about 5 seconds. After the initial start and it's warm, she fires the instance I press the button. Each day is almost exactly the same so I figure it just needs a tweak somewhere, any thoughts before I get stuck in and screw it right up? :D Ambient temperature about 20C by the way. Thanks Roy |

You should post in the MyECU sections, I think this section is for the board itself (software, administration etc)
What do you set the fast idle lever at? I now have extremely good starting both hot and cold but I'm not sure what did it. Some of the ingredients may be: - generous valve lash (which you already have) - rerouting of the ground strap from battery (to the engine block instead of rear subframe) - earliest possible injection phasing (InjAdv) My InjAdv is 720 at (0,0) and 705 at the other cells lower left. You have a value of 600 so I don't think this makes a lot of difference but you could try it. I can't post my whole InjAdv table because the post size limit is too small. Basically I mimic SoI (Start of Injection) instead of EoI (End of Injection). This is calculated in a spreadsheet, from engine speed and pulse width for each cell. |

This page explains starts a little - http://www.cajinnovations.com/MyECU/FirstSteps.htm
Basically you want to change the 20C entry of the Prime ( by one at a time ) and Boost lines ( by 5% at a time ). Try reducing first. There is an initial prime pulse when you crank in addition to the per cycle prime. Given you have a consistent start do this over a few days changing one variable at a time. Throttle position is important too, keep this the same. I usually start with no throttle and increase slowly as it fires. |

Thanks guys, I increased the 20C setting by 1 that made a huge improvement.
