Title: No throttle and engine rotations information
Post by Lug on 06/06/11 at 19:50:57
HI, I have a 1100 sport I 1998.
3 years ago, I bought MY16m( may be, I need an upgrade).
and after I bought and setup the optimizer (4.1 Version 6) with the LC1 O2 sensor. I had only recently setup the system set.
The bike with the cold engine is long to start.
In the optimizer I enter the Autotune menu , who stay a long moment on MON, and after on WAI but don't change because of no engine rotation and Throttle position information   (could'nt reach the breakpoint --).
Unfortunately, I couldn't plug the original ECU(this is broken)

Thanks for help

The autotune is only for when you are riding and thoroughly warmed up. It is not for setting your startup parameters. The end of this page has some information about starts - http://www.cajinnovations.com/MyECU/FirstSteps.htm .

There's also this thread - http://cajinnovations.com/yabb0/YaBB.pl?num=1303239895

In fact, the information I gave you was after half an hour riding.
I did a new tour yesterday and the main problem is that I have no information displayed , all the values are 0 (voltage, rotation, throttle etc...)
as you indicated "Getting started with MyECU" , In autotune menu I Turned the lower potentiometer 5% clockwise and it has improved the engine idle (smoother) and I enter the modification in MyECU.
I did'nt go further because of the display problem .
could you send me again the ecucontroller  software to make tests.

With such basic failure of the display, you should not be trying advanced functions.

Did you get the Optimiser at the same time as the ECU?
Send me an email so I can determine who you are and what software you have.
Send me a picture of the Optimiser when the bike it idling.

I am having a similar problem.  I thought I was being smart, and pulled the Headlamp Relay to save the battery while I was doing some startup testing.  The first thing I noticed was that the tacho wasn't indicating, either with the Optimiser or the PC program (ECUControl150).  The switch settings on the ECU are 1,2,and 4 off, 3 on.  After a quick look at Carl Allison's schematic, I realized that I needed to have the Headlight relay plugged in to get power to the tacho.  After that, the tacho worked, and the ECUControl150 program showed the RPM too.  However, the Optimiser only shows the TPS setting (txxx), the RPM (rxxxx), always shows zero.  All the menus seem to work, but Autotune seems to be stuck at Wai, probably because the rpm readings are necessary for updates to occur.  Am I having an Optimiser problem, or some other issue?

The fuse should have nothing to do with the ECUController or Optimiser receiving the information unless it also stopped the ECU getting power.

Did the Optimiser ever display that information?

I did not pull the Headlamp fuse, I pulled the Headlamp relay, but it is back in its socket now.  The rpms used to indicate before I pulled the ECU to replace the power FET.  The original FET had gone bad and was draining the battery.  I replaced the battery with one of the new Lithium ones from Shorai, and also replaced the FET and added the .1uF cap across the power FET.  I hope I didn't damage something else.  Unfortunately, I don't have a scope, but it seems that if the PC indicates correctly, and matches what the tacho says, then the Optimiser should also indicate correctly.  BTW, I am able to toggle ReadOnly mode on the Optimiser, if it makes any difference.

One more question: The ECUcontroller program and the Optimiser both receive the same serial data stream, and only the tacho gets the 10V pulses, right?

That's correct.

Only one of the ECUCOntroller or Optimiser can be connected at a time though. You haven't rigged up a parallel feed?

No, I only use one at a time.  No parallel feed.  Should I try re-flashing the Optimiser?

That sounds like the next option.
I'm not sure where you're at with that. Have you down it before?

Yes, you sent me the .hex file and the command line for flashing.  I also have the cable which I made originally.

Rats!  I found two Optim_32.hex files in my Guzzi folder.  One is 63018 bytes and the other is 77099 bytes.  My Optimiser has the Atmega324p chip.  Which one is the correct one?

I've just sent the last email I sent you with images

OK, now I have a complaint about your website!  You don't have a smiley that's RED enough to express my embarrassment. :-[    I couldn't get avrdude to work, and in the process of troubleshooting, discovered the lan cable connecting the ECU to the Optimiser is bad.  I will remove it, and find out what the failure mode is.  I still can't believe only one function failed because of this.

Mystery solved:  When I shortened the lan cable, I neglected to check the pinout, assuming it was standard.  I inserted the new connector with the following pinout: wt/or,or,wt/gn,bu,wt/bu,gn,wt/bn,bn.  Unfortunately, the original connector on the other end was: wt/gn,gn,wt/or,bu,wt/bu,or,wt/bn,bn.  :o I made the two ends match, and now the rpms register properly. Is it possible that "Lug" had a similar problem?

In any case, thanks again for your prompt responses. :)
