Title: Which map to start with.
Post by Bobd on 01/20/12 at 09:01:09
My bog standard  '04 LeMans Rosso Corsa has a IAW15M C7 ecu at present, as far as I know it has not been modified. The bike runs OK but being interested I have ordered a MyEcu to learn more about efi in general.

What map should I start with, I understand Cliff does supply a map with the kit but I am unsure how specific it is.

Is it possible to obtain the map currently fitted to the bike and start off with this. Perhaps the standard Marelli ecu does not have the same number of points (?) as the MyEcu does - if so it must be possible to extrapolate them.

My thinking is it would be nice to run the bike on the MyEcu but configured as standard and then start tinkering.

Perhaps I am under some grave misconception, I believe that the ecu only instructs the fuel injectors and ignition to operate at specific times and for specific duration following a 'map', if given the same instruction they should run exactly the same. Or is that total bollocks!

G'day Bobd, I have a bike the same as yours and I am about to launch myself into the installation of one of Cliff's MyECU computers so maybe we could swap notes on the progress of the job. As I'm no computer guru I will no doubt need some questions answered during this process.

Well hello old chap, me being in England and all that me old cocker.

To continue in my best Aussie,  I recommend you check with Cliff that you have the latest Assembly Guide.
Get yourself a large illuminated magnifying glass on a stand. Get something to the hold the pcb, you will soon run out of hands unless you caught the fallout from Chernobyl.
Carefully identify all components and label them.  Cliff recommended using the component count and a multimeter as an aid.
Print out the picture of the pcb as large as you can, you will refer to it constantly and end up seeing it in your sleep.
I printed out the Assembly Guide and taped the components on next to where they were mentioned.
Make sure you leave clearance for the main connector, some components better fitted to underside of pcb.
Lay down the two large capacitors or the cover won’t fit.
There will be blobs of solder sticking out the bottom of the pcb that will prevent it lying flat in the case.  I used a pillar drill with an 8mm drill to kiss the affected areas (Edit.  I mean drill a small amount of the brown insulation and metal casing, not the pcb!).  Be careful as the metal is only about 1.6mm thick.  I made a small hole by mistake that I repaired with araldite epoxy glue.
I have not cut the cover to clear the RJ45 yet, I will try to get some dimensions when I do, unless someone else can post them.

Good luck, I have enjoyed it. Mine is now assembled and have starting testing (off the bike).
