Can anyone send me photos of an assembled Optimiser007, I am having problems converting the assembly guide on the website to suit the 007 pcb.  In particular it is somewhat obscure which wires go to which location.

Also is there room to fit a socket for the i/c chip so I don't have to solder direct onto the delicate and irreplaceable part. By room I mean so it will all fit in the supplied case.

Apart from almost 'looking' like a completely different board the major difference with the 007 pcb seems to be the switches are soldered direct to the pcb.

Which group of wires are the issue, the LCD, the pots or the buttons ( no longer required )

The should be enough room for a low profile socket. I haven't had any issues with the chip with the Optimiser so I haven't bothered with a socket for a long while.

You did get my last email? Your last sentence was answered in that. Minor differences to layout except for the option of direct mounting the switches.

I am sorry if I have caused offence but I am still having problems knowing how to wire the thing up from the photos on the website.I cannot tell where the wires to the potentiometers or the display go as they are hide each other in your photos. Perhaps you could post some from different angles, or print a circuit diagram.

Have you sold many of the 007 version in kit form, has anyone else had the same problem?

I couldn't say for the 007 board but yours was the last of that batch.

WRT the wiring things have not changed. The photos in the instructions even pre-date the 006 board. Did you discover the hi res versions of the photos by clicking on them?

You are still not asking very specific questions even when asked in my previous post. That would at least help me when I open up my current Optimiser to take some pics.

I think I have that board. To be honest I haven't got around to populating it yet. I too am planning on fitting a socket. Only because I modified the original board so heavily with moving the optimiser in and out of its case to a purpose built instrument housings that the original board suffered. I guess that doesn't answer your question over fitting the optimiser case - in my case it doesn't matter.
I did notice there are differences from the original card and the new one CJ sent and maybe that's why I haven't done anything about it so far.

Don't apologise Bob - CJ can appear a bit, er.. "testy" sometimes. It's easy when you know how - but if you don't and are not electronically minded..it's best to ask the questions. You seem to be working through the stuff pretty well. Crack on - it's worth it.
There is an issue over the ribbon cables and which input they go to on the LCD. I noticed this and a wiring diagram could be useful: red to LCD 01, black to LCD 02 or whatever. Trying to follow the colours on photos can obviously be done but it isn't the most elegant way of doing it - a plan of the LCD and the board showing interconnections shouldn't be to difficult. Ditto the buttons and pots.

The LCD has holes numbered 1 - 14. The PCB also has 1-14 . however 7-10 aren't drilled because they are not used.
The wiring on this is one to one EXCEPT pins 1 & 2 which is reversed.

Ah ha - I didn't recognise the significance of the PCB gap of non-drilled holes - looking, but not seeing - now the logic becomes evident.
I tied myself in knots last spring using a different cable - scart style - due to pots/buttons/lcd being remote from pcb and the use of a different lcd. I wrote down the core colours old / new and still got it mixed up. (The wires melting with improper use of silicon sealant didn't help troubleshooting either though.)

Using the first optimiser const. photo it's not  entirely clear what happens at lcd 4/5/6 & 11/12/13/14 - now it is! Doh.

To be fair to Cliff I should mention that there was a supply problem with the Optimiser printed circuit board. I was a little impatient so Cliff very kindly sent me the art work for the pcb which I made up here, and of course also drilled off here. Thus no undrilled holes!

I think my best course of action is to wait for the proper pcb to arrive and proceed from there, hopefully aided by more photos.

However Mad_F has described the problem pretty well.

With regard to the YABB answer No.7 above, I can see that the LCD has clearly numbered holes however the pcp artwork as displayed in TraxMaker only shows the top and botton track layers and the yellow overlay showing outlines of the major components. I could not make it display the holes.
I cannot work out which holes are those you described as 1 to 6,  (7 to 14 being irrelevant) :-?.

Thank you so much,  this is exactly what I was after.

My previous post seems to have gone missing. The hole labelled as 7 is not part of the LCD connection. It is one of the pot wipers.
