How can I post a photo?

When I use the "Insert Image" button to post a photo I have on my Flicker account, it merely inserts a link to the photo. I'd like the photo to actually appear in my message.

That's all I do. Nothing wrong with a link though. Inline images can slow threads loading.

Copy an image url.
Paste it in your post.
Then select the whole of it and press the third button from left in top row right above the edit window.

Source will now look like this:

Um, wait... that button must be the same you mentioned. So why did it not work for you?

My guess is you used the wrong URL from flickr.

Here is an URL that turns into a link despite image tags:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sign216/6802912692/in/photostream/

Here is one that ends up as a picture (but without the image tags):
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7189/6802912692_fe87e75e9b_z.jpg

With image tags around it:

I just upload to Picasa and drag the image into the text frame here - seems to work on most forums. Still haven't worked out why Google+ & Picasa seem to have merged in terms of sharing privileges - so public sharing need resolving.

Thanks Raz and Mad F. With your example Raz, I think I can play around with it to get pictures to load.
