Title: USB Parallel port for fimware upgrade?? Post by Bobd on 03/17/12 at 03:46:34
Does anyone know if the USB parallel printer port adaptars are OK to use when doing a firmware update?
My PC does not have a parallel port. (LPT) |

I would be sceptical that it would work. There is quite a bit of bit banging going on to flash the chip. The parallel port is generally a quickly accessible port. Putting it behind the USB is adding a lot of overhead

A 2012 computer should have plenty margin for emulating a 1980's parallel port, despite some USB in between. Not that I have tried it. Give it a try, I really think it will work just fine.
You won't find a computer with a parallel port nowadays. The one I use is from 2005 and I keep it just for eventual firmware updates. |

Thanks, I do have an old PC I can probably get running, I proudly made up the cable then pulled my PC away from the wall to plug in and .... ah, no printer port!
