Title: My ECU (1.6m) mapping question Post by desmo11 on 10/17/12 at 13:36:10
I am considering buying a 1.6m replacement. I do have a couple of questions regarding the ECU's capabilities though. Basically can the ECU sweep variables in real time (or while the engine is running)? As well as record an additional analog voltage?
Specifically I am looking to hold a speed/throttle point on a dyno while sweeping lambda, spark timing, and injection (end of injection event) timing. Injection timing is the trickiest as closed loop lambda control for the individual cylinders is really needed to do it right. |

The MyECU can do closed loop for two cylinders independently but there is no extra analog available. What were you thinking of measuring?
The Optimiser is the currently the best for real-time tuning as you can turn a pot and change the parameter, but only one at a time. I think you're expecting to be able to turn the pot and see the power on the dyno peak for you. I thought that once too and I tried it a long time ago. I found it very hard to detect any differences. This is while standing next to a screaming motor that is getting hotter by the second and your tyres are wearing away. Some of the things you suspect as making a difference don't. For instance the end of injection at best gives you a couple of % better fuel economy when changed from 300 degrees advance to 600. That's the nature of mist injectors. Even when turning the spark advance +/- 5 degrees the difference eluded me. I think that for anything less than the top levels of racing, what you're thinking of doing is complete overkill. What are you trying to achieve with your tuning? |

I didn't mention that the biggest problem was that the dyno power outputs responded to the individual power pulses of the motor. Especially bad for a big twin. There was no nice power output displayed it was bouncing up and down. I don't know how representative that dyno was.
I've not heard much about the experiences others have had on the dyno. Hopefully they'll give some details now. |

What I'd like to measure would be dyno measured torque. I should be either able to filter the data analog or post-process. I guess I could flat map the baro correction and use that analog input(?).
I must disagree with you on injection timing, it is HUGE. That said if one has high duty cycle injection events, yes, sensitivity to EIOT is low as in this circumstance fuel flow is nearly constant through the engine cycle anyhow. Injection timing will swing around a bit based on the tuning length of the inlet tract. If the my1.6m will allow for sweep of injection timing while maintaining closed loop lambda control on both cylinders (via pots is ok), as well as do lambda sweeps while doing closed loop control of both cylinders..... you've got a new customer. |
