Optimizer causes problem with ECU
06/01/09 at 05:40:31

Hi.

I have a problem with my Optimizer.

If I connect my Optimizer with the My15M the ECU stops working after 20 - 30 sec.

It appears while running with idle as well as if I opperate the bike on normal road.

After some few seconds the ECU starts with it's work again.

After some 20 - 30 seconds it reapeats it's error and stops with the work. It is endless repeatable.

If I disconnect the optimizer with the ECU, the ECU works without error.

First, I have thought that the problem is caused by EMC. Therefore I have run the cable far away from ignition coils on the outside of the bike.

But same as before.

Does anyone knows this kind of phenomena?

Best regards,
James.

This is not normal.
What length cable are you using to connect them?
Are you doing anything with the Optimiser at the time?

Watch the Optimiser display, does it go blank?, do updates stop? do you see the ECU vsersion displayed?

Try replacing the Optimiser with the serial adapter board.

Hello again.

It appears if the cable is connected to the ECU.

It appears if the cable and the optimizer are connected to the ECU.

If it appears the value showed on the Optimizer's display freazes.

If the cable and the optimizer are not connected to the ECU it doesn't appears.

An other person with ECU had this malfunction, too.

Best regards,
James.

Let's focus on the simplest case - "It appears if the cable is connected to the ECU"
So my interpretation is no Optimiser at all, just the cable and the ECU.

Check the connector in the ECU. Are all eight conductors straight and even?
Does the cable fit securely?
How is the cable routed? Try it coiled next to ECU.
The cable is just standard network cable, try another.

The ECU causes the problems if the optimizer is connected to the ECU more often as if only the cable is connected to the ECU.

The cable has already been changed three times - same problem.

I have meanwhile the idea the ECU connector has a cold braze point. I am going to check it accordingly.

Send me your stuff if you don't get it running. Matthias has my address. I can check it on my bike and try it out with my ecu and Optimiser. That's an offer. The MyEcu works. I have the cable placed under the tank, more or less touching the fuel pump, then passing the coils before going up to the dashboard. Never had a glitch.

Thanks for the offer Hubert.
That's probably the quickest way as you one both in Germany.

BTW, I sent 2 more units your way yesterday. I might have to consider a tour over there.
