If you have your spark at TDC.....

There's a big assumption right there.

My friend w the 1026 E85 engine measured ignition during starting.
W TDC=1 he gets that it really has 4 degrees & the MyP8 is unstable and does not always ignite, lotsa kickbacks.
The WM P8 gives 0 degrees when starting and a stable spark and starts easy.
All w fresh starter gear & a 75 A battery.

Something is funny...
Theories?

Sounds very much like mine. I did not measure it that accurate as I do not have a good degrewheel that I can use with engine running but it confirmes what mine does.

I also had to replace my sprag clutch as it was destroyed by the violant kickbacks. Embarrassed

For the moment my My16 is on the shelf, being replaced by a standard P16 with a ducati 916 eprom and a PC3USB.

Now she starts and runs like a dream.

The problem I am looking at is for the MyP8 only.
The only reason I can see a My16M would release the spark early is if the processor reset due to a brown out. This would be visible if you logged the data from the ECU. Did you get a log capture? I can't recall.

How to avoid any browouts?
Would a separate 12V feed cure that?
Would altered Inj V On values help?

I managed to do a test log but I gave up when my sprag clutch gave up.

A MkIII MyECU should not have problems with brownouts unless the voltage booster is not working.

A separate 12V feed will not help.

For those of you suffering kickbacks on the MyP8, I have new firmware for the Attiny13 ( the 8 pin chip ) that waits for the zero crossover. This gives proper TDC firing.
I've tested it on my Cali and it does seem to improve starts.
Please PM or email your address details and the name I know you by and I'll send  new chip in the post to you, no charge.

That was mentioned -"waits for the zero crossover".
Previously the chip was looking for a certain signal level to detect a pulse start and that same level to detect the end.
Now it uses the zero level as the pulse end. This stops it from adding advance when it should trigger at TDC.

Like all good fixes it was a one liner.

OK, thx.
Sometimes I think you have to remember that many of us users do not have your level of knowledge....

Does this improvement also makes settings in TDC=0
& the whole IgnAdv more accurate?

I try and shelter you from some of the unnecessary detail. Smiley

It will improve also for TDC=0.

The change only affects the start up. After startup the execution reverts to unchanged code that still uses the elevated levels. However at this point the amplitude of the signal and the steepness of the curve means that this error is not significant.
