Glitch at WOT
07/06/10 at 07:51:58

I'm getting a Glitch at WOT around the 6K Throttle break point, then it resumes just fine to redline.. it's best described as a momentary narrow window of power loss. I don't see anything obvious in my map in that area as the numbers seem linear. Other than changing the mixture or advance, what could be doing this?  Any suggestions would be appreciated. My15m
v11 sport guzzi with open pipes and K&N filter. runs fine everywhere else on the map...  here's what my wot line looks like:

First off WOT may not correspond to row 14 exactly unless you have made it so.

I had a guy with a similar problem on a Cali Special Sport. Actually I think it was just off WOT, next row down. WOT was ok. For weeks we were trying to figure out why the ECU would have problems at that point.

Finally the owner found the issue. It was the sidestand switch.
The resonances conspired at that point.

Side stand switch? very interesting... I'll short it and give it a try and also check to see if my wot is really that.... I don't recall checking actually what my wot tps value is...
thanks

My wot value is 960 on the map and actual is 980 so I guess i'm ok there.  I'll run the bike with the side stand switch bypassed and see if I have the same problem as the Cali you described...

I think not: Your TPS setting is what, 130-ish? For example if it's 128, this means your true map value for row 14 is 960+128=1088 so you don't stand a chance reaching it. Your true row 13 is 896+128=1024 and you'll never reach that either. Your row 12 value is 832+128=960 so at WOT you'll be at an Y coordinate of 12.3 or something like that. Please post your three upper lines, I guess your problem is in line 12 and/or 13.

But do try the sidestand switch bypass, it's easy to do. All sorts of similar things happen to relays and sockets when not in good condition: They can measure fine and seem fine at most rpms but at certain harmonics they fail to deliver good power.

Hi Raz,

can you explain a bit for me why you are adding the 128 to the 960? I am a bit confused...   Undecided What is the 128 coming from?  Thanks

my tps is at 92 or 95... what do I have to do to the map to make it reach the top line? like I said, the throttle goes to 980.  maybe that's why I had to totally increase the mixture from the map I started with from cliff.

If my tps value on my map is the idle setting (in my case 95) and it's 980 at wot as shown by the ecu program. will I reach the 960 wot break point on my map or do I have to adjust something or subtract 95 from my 980 reading and set my wot break point to 885? I thought it adjusted automatically when you set the tps value on the map.

here are the lines on my map

MyECU Cfg RPM=8620, TPS=95

# This defines the throttle breakpoints. This on top of TPS base above

Well I hook up the bike to the ecu controller again and raz, you're right, I'm only getting to row 12 on the map.

What's a good way of determining the break points? just reduce the numbers by a percentage based on wot from the base map provided?  do I just reduce all numbers by my tps setting (95)?
thanks

Sorry for all the replies but, I have figured it out....

my break points will be:

884 828 771 715 659 603 546 490 434 377 321 265 209 152 96

WOT is 980 and tps is 95  at aprx 56.28 apart to make it linear

Let me know if you guys think this is reasonable...

Regards

Charles

Personally I use to keep all spacing at 64 except for the WOT line but it doesn't matter much.

Remember, if you edit the map file with a text editor (I mostly do it that way) you can change all sort of things with nothing else happening, I assume you did so now. But if you do it in ECUControl, it will interpolate stuff so lots of InjDur cells will be changed. In this case the latter would probably not have solved your problem.

Also, if you watch the throttle breakpoints in ECUControl, they will be shown with the TPS added, while the map file shown in eg. Notepad will show the values without TPS. This is confusing until you're used to it. The line you showed seem to be a mix:
If you edit your map file with a text editor, lowest number should be zero and highest number 884. If you look at the same map using ECUControl, lowest number will be 95 and highest number will be 980.

Raz,
Thanks for clearing that up, I'll double check and see how it runs now... probably way too rich!

Update on wot glitch and the side stand issue. I shorted the plug and remapped it and it went away.. not sure if it was the remap but I re connected the plug for the ss and the problem has not come back.. the plug was loose and not all the way home i believe so that might have been it originally...  i had to rework the map a bit to get my row 13 to 15 but after some global adjustments, it seems to be fine now.   other than dyno or autotune with a lc1 lambda sensor, it's as good as it's gonna get...
Thanks for all your help,

regards
Charles
