Returning newby with a decision to make

My Sport 1100i has been in a hiatus for 7 years (no forks). It's almost back together in the physical sense but my wiring is a mess. I had one of the very early (#2 or #3) My16M's and in those days, you hacked into the wiring loom. Mine still is. I sold that ECU but still have the #2 My15M in the V11 Sport style housing. I also have a wiring harness from a V11 Sport. The question becomes one of which path to take, replace the wiring harness with the later version and modify connectors to match the earlier switch gear etc or remove the MY15M board and put in the in the WM16M housing and fix the original wiring harness. Just to add confusion, I also started to wire in a WM15M connector in parallel with Cliff's wiring so I could go either route but I'm leery of that path.

It's been a few years and there has been lots of progress with the MYECU series ECU's. Will I be able upgrade this very early model with software or should I start saving to buy a later version? I've got one of Cliff's early optimizers too but I'm entirely uncertain whether I still have all of the parts. There have been two house moves since I started, then stopped, on getting my bike running. Things are in a bit of a state of disarray and another house move is looming in the near future. Looking for a little directional input here. I'm waaaayyyyy behind the curve.

Good to have you back Carl

The very first My15Ms used the Atmega16. Unfortunately the firmware got too big for them. If your's has an Atmega32 then it should upgrade to the latest.

For the wiring harness, you'll probably end up with a tidier setup and one that you will be more at ease with if you put the V11 harness on and just transfer the connectors over as required.
You don't need to create a schematic for it  Cheesy

Pin for pin component swap or is a new board necessary?

Edit: Crap. Out to the garage. This one has the Atmega16. Ah well, it is #2 and has the reversed wiring on the TPS because of that error on my early V11 Sport schematic. I fixed that with a sloppy jumper a long time ago. After cataract surgery 4 years ago, I don't think I would attempt to solder a Atmega32 on. I could probably do it. Carefully. Fingers crossed... Maybe it would be better to send it back for an upgrade. Cost?

Are you using it on your other bike?

There's no reason to change it for the Sport work.
You should get the Sport working with it as is. We'll sort out the upgrade later.

The V11 Sport is long gone. The My15M for it is still here as is the Sport 1100i which is still using the original Weber Marelli unit. Well, when it runs at all that is. Right now I'm waiting for parts to run a carb sport tank on the EFI setup.

The Sport 1100i has Stage II porting by Mike Rich and is dual-plugged as well. If I find employment to augment the state of finance per retirement, it will gain a cam and some other bits. Used Öhlins replaced the WP forks that parts are no longer available for. I could go ahead and swap out the Sport 1100i wiring harness for the V11 Sport one but that is a one way trip. At the moment, it should be capable of running either the WM unit or the My15M (V11 Sport type) on the bodgered harness. If I get the My15M to support the engine mods well, then I'll likely go ahead with the harness swap.

How is it running at the moment.

My Sport still has the Y connection in the harness. Surprisingly had no problems with it.

Ummm, it's not running at the moment. No fuel tank. Original is crudded up from sitting four years with gas in it (mea culpa) and has a dent where a box fell on it. I have a carb sport tank needing one more fitting to substitute for it. New battery, "Y" harness with a connector for a WM15M replacing the original "CJ" connector. Not dead certain about that addition as a relay starts clicking when I hook up the battery. I need to review this drawing (or peer review).

The 15M interface is identical to the 16M with the exception of the on board pressure sensor and the relay the 16M uses to power itself. This may be what you hear clicking. the relay's not needed for the 15M.

That would explain the 1/2 second or so click rate. I should have my tank complete by next week and then proceed with initial trouble-shooting. All this at the same time I'm packing to move and showing the house I'm trying to leave at the same time. Fun.

a) never been called smart before - many thanks  Cheesy
b) that's a good harness diagram - could dovetail with a fualt finding "route cause analysis" thing I have been dabbling with.
c) always meant to draw up a schematic of the ecu / LC1 / optimiser incorporated in console / power lines / electronic speedo cabling on my Sporti as age (drink!) increasingly plays tricks on memory.
