ECU
04/26/12 at 18:55:05

G’Day
Well at long last I am ready to have another go at Cliffs ECU. Can I have the ECU hooked up to Lap Top through the RS232 adaptor board to set coms port before I install it on the bike?  Or do I have to do the set up with the ECU fitted to the bike? I have tried to set up a coms port and get the computer to start the ECU controller program off the bike.

The ECU will not take power from the serial interface so it must be powered from the bike.

Idle TPS

G’day
I have communication up and running, but I’m not too sure if I am setting the idle up correctly. I had a displayed TPS of 121 and tried tuning it for idle at this setting with the injector duration changed to give a better sweet spot. I had to increase/open up the throttle bodies to get an idle around 1100rpm. Which changes the start TPS of 121 to 150 to get it to idle at 1100rpm. Am I on the right track to increase the throttle opening until I get the desired idle speed which increases the TPS reading??? The bike on its test run ran well with 5% added through the global map, the jerking around 3000-4000rpm has gone and only a slight ping compared to the usual rattle when accelerating under load from around 4000rpm. I have lowered the coil charge to 0=5000 from the 0=6000 as in the start map.

For adjusting the idle ONLY there is a slightly easier way that I came across after I wrote those notes.
Set the TPS base to something well over the required value, like 200.
The ECU will accept any throttle value below this as at idle. This will allow you to make the adustments without needing to readjust the TPS base.
When the idle adjustment is finished set the appropriate value for TPS base.

I was hoping something like that was possible. I will have a play with it and see what happens.

Ok well I had a play for a couple of hours, when I tried to input a TPS of 200 it would not allow me stating it had to be between 50 and 150. I ended up using the map Raz put on the fourm and played around getting a suitable idle. I ended up with a TPS of 97. The air bleeds had to be wound out a turn or two, more so the left side. Bike starts well and idles happily. I need to balance bodies properly as I tuned it by ear but it does sound ok. Will test ride it tomorrow to see if the air bleeds impact on closing throtle on the road.

Those sanity checks always come back to bite. I guess to put 200 in it needs to be put directly into the map.

I have had my V11 for five years and on giving it a test run this arvo I can honestly say it is the best it has performed. No pinging, no jerking and holding a good idle. When in 5ht gear pulling away from 3000rpm under loaded acceleration it is a little flat. Not that you would ride that way much. I have it in open loop at present and will go closed loop soon and see what happens.  Smiley
